Floppy nostrils

We do a lot of Bugeye front-flip conversions. Many cars come to our shop for this upgrade (please give us a call if you’d like us to transform your car to a flip nose configuration). It’s extremely popular because just about every Sprite driver has a lower back that has seen a lot of service through the years, and lifting these noses in the conventional configuration is one more stressor for lower back muscles and discs that could use a break.

*All our Super Sprites have flip-forward noses.*

Switching to a flip nose configuration is the bees knees because it’s much easier to lift the nose from the windshield side and flip it forward, and it doesn’t strain your body at all. The challenge in making this modification is that you can rarely just slap a flip-front nose kit onto a Bugeye and have good alignment, for multiple reasons.

*Getting your Bugeye’s nose to flip forward is a great upgrade. After fitting the nose properly, you can attain nice alignment as you can see above.*

What lives in the garage with your Bugeye Sprite?

Here’s a photo of a red Bugeye we renovated back in 2015, this one for a customer in Maryland, back home in the garage, with awesome stable mates (see “128 improvements later,” posted here). Behind the cars you’ll also see a great collection of vintage motorcycles.

I am always impressed to see the diverse range of companions living with the garaged Bugeyes out there… it seems pretty common to find a 911 in attendance, or some other great collectible car. Sprites beautifully transcend categories and description. They are like denim, they go with everything.

From the Bugeyeguys vault: Bugeye Sprite Tractor-Pull

Back in the early days of the Quonset hut we currently call home, getting non-running cars in and out of the shop was quite the challenge. Luckily, in the time since this post was made in 2017 we have upgraded to a four-post lift to transport stricken Bugeyes (and other British cars) from the lower level, making this process much easier. Enjoy this video from seven years ago, when we had to get creative to maneuver an inoperable MGB!

When a wounded ’67 MGB with a seized engine arrived at our facility, we had a choice-either push the car up our ramps to our shop level (four feet up), or enlist the help of a powerful workhorse residing inside. This particular horse has a broken fuel pump and needed to be fed fuel with a tin-can IV drip… but nonetheless, the MGB was still small work for the mighty Bugeye.

And BTW, the MGB was able to drive out under it’s own power, its engine now installed…

Congratulations David and Lynn, we wish you many wonderful miles with your new Bugeye “Cat!” We took this great car and made it spectacular, after about 45 repairs and improvements custom-tailored to the needs of the new owner. We currently have about six great Bugeyes in stock–call if we can build-out one just for you!

Leaf Green 1961 Bugeye Sprite driver for sale! New wiring harness and tires!

NOW SOLD to Tim in Illinois! Congratulations, Tim, on your new Sprite!!!!

Arty is getting transformed! New tires are installed, and a new wiring harness is going in and just about complete. We’ve also removed the radio and added a Sprite blanking plate. The car is still available and just keeps getting better!

This is Arty (AN5L 48495), a 948-powered car with an upgraded rib-case transmission and front disc brakes. This car was built in near the end of the production run in 1960 and first titled in 1961. This is a nice car that is great to drive and runs very well! It came to us from Virginia, where it was under the long-term loving care of its previous owner. Arty is nicely painted in Leaf Green, one of the original colors available on Bugeyes when new. The chrome wire wheels are nice too!

New tires were installed today!

We’ve prepared Arty for sale and changed to new 155 tires, replaced both rear wire wheel splined hubs, resealed the rear axles, installed new K & N lifetime air filters, installed new door seals, new seat foam, and removed the non-original interior door handles… all to spruce-up the cockpit and improve the driving experience (and eliminate a bunch of rattles)!

This is a great car at a great price. Take a drive with me in the video above!

We will re-alight the front end later this now that the new tires have been installed. The car also comes with a new wiring harness installed, which isn’t shown, but we will put it in once we get caught up in the shop. This is a big upgrade!

And by the way, the top and tonneau are very nice. Top and side curtain storage bags are also included, as is a set of side curtains.

A matching hardtop is available for an extra fee. We’ve included a few pictures below of the car with the hardtop fit so you can see how it looks with a matching lid if you want to go in that direction, otherwise, the car comes with the usual black soft top and tonneau, which you can see in the gallery below.

This is a nice car with lots of great new improvements. Give a call if you would like to take Arty home!
