If you are looking to build your own Bugeye, It would cost a lot more than $7500 to build-up a tub to this level! This is a fun project with the most difficult portion already complete! Check out the video below of the bodywork on the rear deck of Kit, it is very nicely profiled!

This is a 1959 Bugeye kit called “Kit.”

Kit had a massive amount of energy invested to date to create a painted and restored tub. There is more to do, but if you were thinking of doing a Bugeye Restoration, this is a fantastic way to start because a ton of the hard work is already done.

The underside is completely restored, new floors are such a nice foundation with which to start! The back deck and body panels have also been patched, primed, painted and restored. The rust has been addressed, and now all that’s left is assembly.

There is a little bit more body work to be done on the doors and the nose which will need to be fit to the car, but once you handle that (or use a body shop to handle that for you), then it’s a straightforward assembly project. We’ve fit the doors on the car and they are ready for their final bodywork and paint. We have the paint code… see the paint bottle in the gallery. And thus it’s a project that’s well within most people’s reach and also something that can be completed in your lifetime (starting from scratch often seems to take two lifetimes).

The prior owner did the hardest job and got Kit to an excellent launching point.. now you get to bring the car back to life.

Kit comes with a clear Michigan title and all the paperwork you need to register the car anywhere in the world. Most of the parts are there… we can help with anything that’s missing, and more importantly if you want to car built-up in any particular way, we can also contribute to help you get this car finished and driving by the summer.

For example, there are currently no front suspension components installed and the car comes with drum brake parts but we can also upgrade and assemble the car with disc brakes too. You have lots of options.

In addition, you can also upgrade the engine to one of our new 1275s, but it comes with a rebuildable 948 engine and smooth case transmission, so you have lots of choices, and we invite you to give us a call and discuss how you want to move this forward. NOW SOLD to Tim in Illinois! Congratulations, Tim, on your new Sprite!!!!

Arty is getting transformed! New tires are installed, and a new wiring harness is going in and just about complete. We’ve also removed the radio and added a Sprite blanking plate. The car is still available and just keeps getting better!

This is Arty (AN5L 48495), a 948-powered car with an upgraded rib-case transmission and front disc brakes. This car was built in near the end of the production run in 1960 and first titled in 1961. This is a nice car that is great to drive and runs very well! It came to us from Virginia, where it was under the long-term loving care of its previous owner. Arty is nicely painted in Leaf Green, one of the original colors available on Bugeyes when new. The chrome wire wheels are nice too!

New tires were installed today!

We’ve prepared Arty for sale and changed to new 155 tires, replaced both rear wire wheel splined hubs, resealed the rear axles, installed new K & N lifetime air filters, installed new door seals, new seat foam, and removed the non-original interior door handles… all to spruce-up the cockpit and improve the driving experience (and eliminate a bunch of rattles)!

We will re-alight the front end later this now that the new tires have been installed. The car also comes with a new wiring harness installed, which isn’t shown, but we will put it in once we get caught up in the shop. This is a big upgrade!

And by the way, the top and tonneau are very nice. Top and side curtain storage bags are also included, as is a set of side curtains.

A matching hardtop is available for an extra fee. We’ve included a few pictures below of the car with the hardtop fit so you can see how it looks with a matching lid if you want to go in that direction, otherwise, the car comes with the usual black soft top and tonneau, which you can see in the gallery below.

Now SOLD to Nelson in Texas! Bugeye #423 is headed west! Congratulations!

Here’s a great project if you are looking to build your dream Bugeye. We call this Bugeye “Winter,” a 1960 Bugeye (AN5L 39114) and she’s a great project for the coming winter!

Winter was last driven in about 1989. For the next 35 or so years, she was stored inside awaiting restoration until the owner finally said it was time to trade it for a restored Bugeye. Out went the project and in rolled a nice Bugeye we built, and now he’s happy and his old friend Winter is ready for a new garage.

Check out the photos, the car has plenty of potential, although it will need a complete restoration. (We have all the parts in our catalog to do the restoration!)

The nose is currently rigged to flip forward using the factory bonnet locking mechanism. It will tilt a little or you open the bonnet lock and remove the bonnet entirely. Of course, we have new flip forward kits to do the job properly.

The driver’s side footwell should be repaired-you can see in the underside photos that the floor pan below the headlight dip switch will need a patch… but the rest of the car is far better than most project Bugeyes we have seen. (Floors under seats look far better than most!) Go for a complete restoration or fix the floors and make it drive, the new owner can decide!

It has a 948 engine and a smooth case transmission fitted. I have no info on the condition of the engine and trans, so assume a rebuild will be needed. Rebuild them yourself or we can help with those components if you need rebuilt units, or want to upgrade.

Seats are from a later Sprite and can be fit to the car, or we can provide stock Bugeye seats. What you see in the photos is what you get… and we can help with any small pieces that might be missing. It looks to be quite complete! This is a very rebuildable Bugeye and we hope to see it driving next summer! The car comes with a clean transferrable New York registration and all the paperwork to title the car anywhere in the world.

NOW SOLD to Nils in California! Congrats on taking home car # 421!

Meet Scotty (AN5L 29291). Scotty is a 1960 Bugeye that came to us from Arizona, where this car enjoyed an engine rebuild and Ford Five-speed conversion just about 1000 miles ago. This one has been sitting for about four years, but we have brought it back to life this past week and it drives great.

Power and oil pressure are excellent. Disk brakes, wire wheels and Ford five-speed transmissions are our favorite!

The car has a nearly new five-speed conversion, roll bar, and nifty LED third brake light. Tires are aged out but we have new ones in stock, and wire wheels are quite popular. Scotty also has a single Brooklands windscreen on the driver side, so you can remove the four screws that hold the windshield to the body and strip down for hot weather mini windscreen fun! (we’ve removed the screen and left the two brooklands support stanchions in place, in front of the steering wheel… easy to fit that little windscreen with allen set screws)

This car needs some more refreshing, which we are happy to do for the new owner or you can do it yourself if you want to do some tinkering. Nothing major is needed, the hard stuff is already done. But for example, the radiator is ugly. We have good used ones, or maybe you want an aluminum radiator, depending on your home climate.

The steering hub horn push is missing. The prior owner has a dashboard button that works just fine. But we are happy to restore the horn to its original glory. Rear wheel cylinders and slave cylinder should be replaced. You have lots of choices. The value here is a freshly rebuilt 1275 mated to a great Ford five speed. And wire wheels. The floors have been restored with new sheet metal. So you have a great foundation.
