Superbly preserved 1959 Survivor Sprite for sale!

“Seabiscuit” (AN5L 18863) is one of my favorite Bugeyes in recent memory because it is completely unique. It’s a superb example of a survivor, a preservation-class Bugeye that has a remarkable number of original features still in place. Of course, the original rubber mats are never this nice and wonderful to see, but each time I look at this car I find other original factory features that I haven’t seen on other Sprites… for example, it’s exciting to me to the original screws that hold the trunk boards in place (I am easily excited).

In this listing, you’ll find a series of videos so you can tour the rare features present. Once this car leaves our shop, we don’t expect to find another like it, so these videos will hopefully help future generations understand the factory features. You’ll also see a series of driving videos, including a highway drive on Interstate 95, so you can see that the car is both historically significant and also quite useable.

We’ve built two gold metal concours cars one the years, and many of the components mentioned in the guidelines of the concours standards are visible in real time on this car, and that’s what makes Seabiscuit so much fun. When we built the first production Bugeye (#501), we had to make sure that we accurately recreated a number of original features that were not present in 501 when we got it after initial restoration in Australia. On this car, however, you can see the original features still unmolested and in place just as the factory intended.

A great example of an original feature not often found on restored Bugeyes is the seam sealer along the firewall. Every restored car that we see has been either media blasted or otherwise stripped of its original finish, so these stains and materials are all removed in the name of a sanitary restoration; but in the case of a survivor like this, it’s actually quite beautiful to see the original decayed material still intact. So if you like this sort of automotive time capsule, this is a great car to consider and something that cannot be replaced in this condition.

Door Seal dilemma: How do you fix a Bugeye door seal that has fallen off?

A separated door seal can ruin the aesthetic of your Bugeye’s interior and also lead to rattles.

Door seals on Bugeyes aren’t perfect. When installed properly they look great and create a soft barrier between the door and the body of the car, dampening vibrations and aiding in door fitment. Unfortunately, after repeated attempts to enter and exit the vehicle and brushing up against the seal, it can pull away from the body, creating something similar to what you can see in the above photo.

Fortunately, it’s simple to repair this malady, and you can do it from the comfort of your own garage. In the video below, we’ll show you the best way to fix your separated door seal:

Shed-fresh ’59 Bugeye project for sale!

Now SOLD to John in Massachusetts! Bugeye #385 is headed to Cape Cod!

If you’re looking for a complete project bugeye, take a look at “Poochie” (AN5L 5716), an early ’59 Bugeye Sprite that was originally Iris blue. This is a project car that has been sitting forever and was most recently in storage in Connecticut for the last 25 years, awaiting restoration. The prior owner sold his property this month, so he needed to move this to a new home and we were delighted to retrieve this car and help the Pooch find a new home.

While it will need a complete restoration, Poochie’s in better condition than many of the project cars that we’ve found of late. This is also a relatively early car with the original tunnel mat still in place, and period seat belts similar to the belts we have in Sea Biscuit. There is also a wonderful 8-track player inconveniently mounted behind the driver seat, well worth keeping just as a reminder of how far we have come!

It’s becoming more difficult than ever to find a perfect project car, so we just have to deal with the inventory that shows up, and we’re delighted to help facilitate bringing another one of these great cars back onto the road.

10,000 supercharger miles and counting! VIDEO

This Bugeye gathers no moss. The owner uses it. A lot.

He got this Sprite in the 70s from his dad, and the car is still in the family all these years later. We fit our Spridget supercharger kit about 10k miles ago, and the car was back this week for a front disk brake conversion, new leaf springs and adjustable control arms, so that we could better align the two front wheels.

Almost every Bugeye has had some form of front end hit or another given the 65 years on the road, so the control arm mounts are often tweaked and no longer true. This car had quite a camber asymmetry, which the adjustable control arms allowed us to iron out.

Wake- up, sleeping Bugeye!

Not every Bugeye needs to be perfect! This is a well-used Sprite and under the same ownership for many years. Multiple mechanical upgrades were needed, but in this video, I’ll show you how we’re transforming the interior to make the car more comfortable to use (and to make it smell better)!
