This is a great 1959 Bugeye with all the right modifications, a great stance and a great look. We call this one “Meyer.”

AN5L 17299 was first purchased new in 1959 and held by the same owner until 2005, when it was purchased in Virginia and subsequently restored. This second owner invested thousands to build what you see here today, and subsequent owners have further shaped Meyer into an amazing Bugeye!

Under the stewardship of the second owner, the body was restored, the rebuilt 1275 engine installed and front disk brakes added. In 2013, and after about 5000 miles, the car was then sold to the third owner, who brought it to us in December of that year for a new fuel tank, new shocks, and some tuning. That owner added about 300 miles during his period of ownership before we helped to get it to its most recent owner (in Maine) in December of 2020.

Upon sale to its most recent owner, we performed over $11,000 in additional upgrades to make Meyer even more special. These included new K&N lifetime air filters, three point retractable seat belts, LED brake and turn signal lights, an oversized dash mirror, new door seals, new water hoses, fresh brake and clutch hydraulics, a new steering rack, an aluminum radiator, and much more! We have the build sheets available from both the 2013 and 2021 visits if you’d like to review the full extent of work that has been done in our building.

The interior is very handsomely appointed in black carpet and black seats with white piping. An awesome Mountney aftermarket steering wheel is also present, it feels great in your hands!

A tonneau was fitted in 2021 and fits perfectly. A top, two-piece top bow, and side curtains are all included, each with their own Bugeyeguys carrying pouches. This car is the full package!

This is a Bugeye that is truly turn-key and could drive anywhere today! Of course, there are always a couple of things we could upgrade for the new owner to further improve the driving and ownership experience. Meyer still has a traditionally-opening bonnet; we could convert it to a flip-forward nose for easier engine compartment access. Additionally, Meyer’s tires are in good condition, but they are from 2004 and should be replaced for safety. We have many different tire options available to suit your tastes!
