In the few weeks we’ve had this car, we have completely gone through it and refreshed just about everything that needed attention, and now we have a well sorted survivor Bugeye! A long list of upgrades done to the car is listed at the end of this post.

Meet “the Red Baron” (AN5L 41441), a sweet 1960 Bugeye project for anyone who likes patina and wants a mostly original car. This one was owned for the last 30 years or so by a Sprite fan in Massachusetts. He drove the car about 20k miles… he used it as a driver in nice weather. This is a 948, smooth case, drum brake car -pretty much a completely stock ’60 Bugeye.

We’ve spent this week on a major mechanical refresh, and now Baron is ready for a whole new chapter on the road!

We have done a ton of work to the Red Baron recently to improve it mechanically. We put in a great smooth case transmission, stout clutch and throwout bearing, fixed the leaking original H1 carburetors, repaired the leaking radiator, installed a new master cylinder and slave cylinder, all six wheel cylinders and rubber brake hoses. We also changed the heater valve, oil pressure gauge hose, adjusted the valves, changed the axle seals and repaired the differential leaks.
Ready!

We are happy to restore cosmetics for the new owner, but if you like a little patina, no cosmetic restoration is needed.

The tires on the Baron are brand new (mid-2023 date code) 155 Uniroyal Tiger Paws and have almost no miles on them. The gas tank was also recently replaced. A tonneau cover is also included to protect the interior from the elements (no top).
