This special 1967 MG Midget (GAN4L 52413) is called “Travis” in honor of its most recent owner, a good client of ours who recently passed away and wanted us to sell his beloved car for him and his family. This is an awesome car, one that is mechanically well-sorted while exuding a well-worn “work clothes” exterior. Travis loved the fact that this was an unrestored mostly original car with a great history, unlike other Midgets of its generation.
Travis is a two-owner car. The original owner (“Russ B,” per his nearly 60-year old front license plate) purchased it new in Illinois in 1967 and used it until the mid-1990s, when it was parked in storage until 2023, where it remained until his widow sold the car to Travis. He sent to us after purchase for mechanical sorting, and while it was here, over $20,000 of work was done to improve the car mechanically, with no holds barred… Travis wanted a reliable driver and loved the car so much he wanted everything mechanical renewed. Send an email or call if you want to review the build sheet from the refresh of the car in 2023.
Upgrades performed while here include installation of a rebuilt rib case transmission with new premium clutch, all new brake and clutch hydraulics, new lower control arms, front swivel axles, king pins and wheel bearings, new front and rear premium lever shocks, new rear leaf springs and hardware, a new stock-type exhaust system, new Pertronix electronic distributor, new gray painted wire wheels with new 155 tires, and much more! All of these upgrades were completed 18 months ago and the car has been driven less than 150 miles since the work was completed, so all of these items are essentially brand new!
Being a 1967, this car was equipped with a 1275 engine from the factory. This original engine is still present and runs incredibly strong. With the Pertronix distributor, rebuilt HS2s , and K&N lifetime air filters (all installed by us in 2023), a layer of reliability has been added, as well.
The interior is in good condition; the seats are very comfortable and the upholstery is in good condition. The carpet is faded and thin in spots…we put in new aluminum period correct threshold covers in the footwells and that is all we felt was needed to upgrade the interior just enough so that the original carpet can remain. It all looks quite nice. Two-point lap belts are also installed, and we can upgrade to three-point retractable seat belts for the new owner if so desired.
The top and tonneau are both black and are both in good condition, as is the black parade cover/boot cover used to cover the top when not in use (unlike a Bugeye, later Midgets had the top mechanism built into the car). The top has a small rip in the right side by the front-most tenax fitting. It’s very easy to ignore, or we can fit a new top (perhaps a red one) should the new owner desire.
For someone who likes a bit of patina and is looking for an affordable way to get a really well-sorted Spridget, Travis is the car for you! Click “read more” below for more photos or give us a call if you’d like this Midget in your collection!
