I love this photo.
It shows a beautiful buffet of Bugeye engine parts, pulled out of an unsuspecting 948 block many decades ago. Were this a v12 Ferrari engine, people might store the pieces in a more orderly fashion, but with Bugeyes, we often see parts thrown into a pile like this. You can see the crankshaft, camshaft, engine head (with just one valve spring left), and, in case a Prince makes a special appearance, a seat bottom so he could sit on it all.
Almost every Bugeye comes with good stories, and the ones that haven’t run in forever are often claimed to have run when parked. It’s so easy to imagine the perfect barn find, put away because someone lost the key, or lost interest, just waiting to come back into the light without a hiccup. But more often than not, there was a reason why that old car was resigned to the back of the barn. Dad had the best of intentions to do a valve job, but never got to it. Most of the cars that have been sitting are sitting for a reason.
This one holds no surprises.
