Now SOLD to Marc in Montana! Congratulations on Bugeye #408!
This is “Emil,” (AN5L 25092) a great Bugeye we have serviced in our shop a couple of times so we are excited to be offering this car once again! Emil was restored in 2013, with a rebuilt 1275 engine and mild cam, exhaust header, spin-on oil filter, electronic ignition, front disk brakes, aluminum radiator and five-speed Datsun transmission. The car also has a flip-forward super light fiberglass nose and factory wire wheel splines, currently driving knock-off Minilight style wheels. These are all the best upgrades! Check out the driving video below!
Most recently, this car was in the stewardship of one a client of ours out in California. He purchased the car from us on March 9, 2017 and it departed our shop showing 9,232 miles at that time. The car currently reads 10,539 miles so the most recent owner put just about 1300 miles on the car during his seven years of ownership. Incidentally, ground-up restoration of the car was completed on 8/2/13, with 8193 miles showing, so the car has been driven less than 2500 miles since complete restoration.
The car drives wonderfully-we’ve just tuned and sorted a few maintenance issues.
Before we sold Emil to the California client in 2017, we fit upgraded slotted and drilled front brake rotors, LED lights, upgraded headlights, a burl wood dashboard, wood steering wheel, alternator kit, phone charger/cigarette lighter and an upgraded lockable choke assembly.
The car already has a massive list of improvements, plus we went through this car and sorted everything before it left for California, and we have handled a number of maintenance issues upon the car’s return this month, so it only gets better every time we see it!
The red interior is sharp and a great contrast to the olde English white body. The wooden dashboard is not something we see often, but it’s a premium piece of wood with excellent burl figure, executed very well, and the wood steering wheel adds to the look!
Upon its most recent return, we gave the car a look-over and tuned it to ensure it was running at its best!
The car has a really well-fitting burgundy tonneau but no windows/side curtains, but we can provide a matching top and side curtains for you, should you require them. The last two owners since restoration only drove the car on nice days, so a tonneau was sufficient. The last owner also had us make a red bikini sun shade top for the car (he lives in sunny Southern California), which is also included.
The new owner might consider a wire wheel conversion if so desired… this would be an easy conversion requiring only new rims and tires. The tires on the car are from 2015, so they are about due for replacement on age alone, so while we could move the tires over to the new wire wheels, it would make more sense to restart the clock with new tires if we are doing a wheel swap.
Since these minlight wheels are running on factory-correct wire wheel splines, all we would need to do (if you prefer spoke wheels) is to build-up some new wire wheels and tires for the car and replace the wheels… (the hard work is already done-the spline conversion is complete). Thus, the car is wire-wheel ready. A set of new 60 spoke wire wheel rims and new tires would cost roughly $1500-$2500 depending on which tires you choose and whether you choose painted or chrome wire wheels. We’re delighted to help the new owner get the look they desire!
