Now SOLD to Tim and Catherine in Rhode Island! Congratulations!
If you’re looking for a chrome bumper MGB at a great price, this is the car for you! This 1978 MGB (GHN5UH411422G) came to us from one of our local clients, who purchased it a number of years ago from the builder, who performed the chrome bumper conversion. It runs and drives wonderfully with the look of an early car (early grill and no side lights) and is an awesome car for anyone looking to enter the realm of British roadsters!
The builder of this car installed the tan carpet and dyed the interior panels to match, including the dashboard, which was upgraded with wood accents. They also installed a “thick and beefy” wooden steering wheel in place of the original, more modern-looking wheel that came in the car, and fitted a new modern AM/FM radio with bluetooth capability that looks like a vintage unit.
Of course, they also performed the most noticeable modification, which is the chrome bumper conversion. They removed the rubber bumpers front and rear and installed early MGB chrome bumpers, as well as a Mark I MGB grille. The side lights were removed and filled-in, as well, making the exterior of the car nearly identical to an early MGB.
Under the hood is the original engine and four-speed fully-synchronized and easy to use transmission (no overdrive on this one) with a Weber carburetor installed, with electric choke. It runs and drives incredibly well, as the above driving video can attest. Good stopping power, great acceleration, smooth shifting, and awesome cornering are all hallmarks of this MGB! A new fuel tank and sending unit has also been installed. I really enjoy the fully synchronized gearbox used here, which is much easier to use than the early gearboxes without a synchronized first gear.
The paint has a few small blemishes but presents very well, as does the chrome. The tan top is shrunken, so will be hard to fit unless you live in very hot climate. We can install a new top if the new owner so desires. This car will also need a new and proper battery hold-down.
Overall, this is a really nice MGB at a really good price! Check out the walk-around and driving videos, click “read more” below for the full collection of pictures, and give us a call if you want to take this car home!
