Now SOLD to Ed in Missouri! Bugeye #382 has been saved!
This car is a Bugeye we call Porcelain (AN5L 31252). It is a 1960 Bugeye that was used as a daily driver for an owner outside of Boston; it’s been sitting idle since the late 1980’s, but we were delighted to bring it to our shop and store it inside and start the process of bringing it back to life! Porcelain shows approximately 23,500 miles on the odometer; we have no idea if that is an accurate reading, and like most Bugeyes, it looks like a car that was used and enjoyed by several owners.
A glimpse into the cockpit reveals that Porcelain was originally painted Leaf Green (noted by taking a look at the inside of the doors). The seats and floor coverings are missing because they were decayed and discarded some time ago, but the important seat frame is still present, and we have new backs, bases, foams, and covers for the seats in stock in our parts catalog, as well as full carpet and hardura floor mat kits, and can help the new owner build up what is needed to make the interior complete.
As Bugeye values continue to climb, this is an opportunity to get into a Frogeye with minimal up front cost and build your dream car! As an added bonus, Porcelain has a 1275 engine and rib case transmission fitted; unfortunately the engine is stuck since it hasn’t turned in quite some time. The owner might be able to free it up, but if not, you have a good core for a rebuild that looks to have all the parts present. All four wheels turn; these are recent tires and the car can currently be rolled with ease.
The last sticker on the windshield is from 1984, which is about the time that this car last drove. The prior owner purchased the car from a neighbor in about 1980 and used the car for about five years; it was stored in dry storage in a barn for many years, and has been outside recently, but that’s all the information we have. There’s no title, but we can help the new owner get this car registered anywhere in the world with a transferable registration.
This Bugeye is a big project. Porcelain will need all new floors and new rocker panels, as well as some patch work on the outer shell, so this is not a project for a beginner. We have the sheet metal parts in stock and can advise the new owner as needed to help them bring this car back to life. Anyone looking for a great restoration project has a good starting point with this car! And as with any of the cars we sell, we’re available to help a new owner put another Bugeye back on the road with telephone restoration support!
Give us a call if you’d like to rescue this Bugeye!
