Now SOLD to Dean in West Virginia! Congratulations on a wonderful Bugeye, our 372nd sold!
NEW: We have just located Jericho’s top, top bar and side curtains! Check out the post below to see NEW photos of Jericho’s top!
We call this red 1959 Bugeye Sprite “Jericho” (AN5L 8882). This car had a paint job and restoration some time ago, and after hibernating for a while, we spent about a week bringing Jericho back to life and refreshed the important bits to get this car back on the road.
The car underwent an extensive restoration of its mechanical pieces in our shop. We put in new wheel cylinders, a new master cylinder, new slave cylinder, new electric fuel pump and new gas tank, as well as new lever shock absorbers in the front. We also put in new check straps, radius arms, shocks and dog bones in the rear.
Now Jericho runs and drives quite well!
The interior in Jericho is fine as-is or we can upgrade it for the new owner. The seats are comfortable , the carpet and floor mats are in good shape, and the piping accents the all-black interior well! The interior has just the right amount of weathering to make it feel nostalgic; the steering wheel feels good in your hand and the car has a wonderfully-weathered wooden shift knob installed with the Austin-Healey crest attached.
Jericho is a 948-powered car with the original smoothcase transmission and four wheel drum brakes as original. New brake hydraulics mean a firm brake pedal that stops the car very well. The heater works, but the blower motor is missing (although we can put one in for the new owner if needed). There are some spots on the floors underneath the car and at the bottom of the A pillar where the rocker meets the bonnet where rust has begun to form, as you can see in the pictures at the end of this post. Jericho shines quite nicely and has great curb appeal. Overall, this car is great driver.
Jericho is an inexpensive way to get into a Bugeye! The car comes with an older top that is a little stiff and faded but fits, a top bow, and a set of rough side curtain cores. Each of these could be replaced if the new owner so desired-we have all of that stuff in stock, and regularly fit new weather gear to cars.
If you’re looking for an inexpensive driver Bugeye, Jericho is worth a serious look! Give us a call if you would like to learn more!
