Sharpie has undergone some more upgrades! This week, we put in all-new wheel cylinders to restore the drum brakes to their peak performance. We’ve also replaced the Radius Arms to make the car ride more smoothly.
I wasn’t a fan of the lousy reproduction choke and starter knobs and cables that were installed when we got the car, so we’ve changed them to accurate reproductions of the original, just like the ones that you see on our Concours gold-winning car, AN5L 501. Sharpie is looking and driving better than ever!

Today we offer for your consideration “Sharpie” (AN5L 27824). We call this Bugeye “Sharpie” because it was actually last owned by none other than Bob Sharp. If you’re unfamiliar, Bob was a Datsun dealer here in Connecticut for many years, and he owned Paul Newman’s Trans-Am team. Below you’ll see some great vintage Bob Sharp racing photos.
Like so many classic car celebrities, Bob got his start with classic British sportscars and he always always wanted a nice Bugeye, and this was his ride! He was kind enough to pass it on to us. The result is a very nicely prepared Bugeye that was completely restored in about 2017 and is still in excellent shape.
Sharpie has a strong-running 948 engine mated to a smooth case transmission and drum brakes all the way around. The interior is in great condition, as is noted in the pictures. The back side of the dash mirror is even painted to match the rest of the car!
Sharpie came to us with the matching hardtop shown above; however, this is not included with the car, but can be purchased separately. A tonneau is included with a stowage pouch; although it is an older tonneau, it still fits. Wind wings are fitted to the windshield stanchions and are in good condition. Sharpie also comes with a pair of really nice side curtains (in a Bugeyeguys side curtain wallet) and a clean top bow. A top came with the car but is not usable; a new one could be fitted here for the new owner if they so desired.
In fact, Sharpie would be a good candidate for a couple of comfort and appearance upgrades, such as retractable 3-point seat belts (two-point lap belts are currently installed).
If you’re looking for an excellent restored Bugeye to drive and show, this one is worth your serious consideration! We have driven it a bit since it arrived earlier this week; the engine is strong, the gearbox shifts well, the car has newer tires all the way around, and the drum brakes stop the car well.
