We did it!
This past week, I attended the National Austin-Healey Club Enclave in Pennsylvania. I decided to bring two Bugeyes that could not possibly be more polar opposite from each other. Car 501 was there to be judged as a concours vehicle, undergoing 4 hours of relentless judging from a panel of 4 experts with the goal of attaining gold medal certification. Gumby was brought to show at the popular vote show in downtown Stroudsburg. Much to my delight, we left the Poconos with both cars receiving the highest possible awards!
We are proud to announce that after the judging process was completed, AN5L 501 was awarded concours gold certification! We could not possibly be more pleased about this result. We managed to take a Bugeye from well-restored but modernized to well-restored and concours-correct in just 66 days, thanks to the tireless efforts of our entire Bugeyeguys crew. This time last year, I would have never believed I would own this historic Bugeye, let alone attain such an accolade after only about two months to prepare.
In addition to the success we achieved with 501 in the concours event, Gumby won “Best of Show” among all Sprites present at the people’s choice car show in Stroudsburg. I’ve been to lots of car shows through the years, and this was our first “Best in Show.”
The video below covers an introduction to these two cars, vehicles that represent opposite ends of the spectrum of Bugeye possibilities (from totally stock to radically modified). We’re proud to be able to build top-shelf cars at such extreme ends of the continuum, and honored that these two builds received national awards.
