NOW SOLD to Lou of NJ! Congrats on giving Bear (our 363rd Bugeye) a new home!
If you’re looking for a great project Bugeye, Bear (AN5L 26569) is an excellent choice! This car is a 1960 Bugeye that was last used in the 80s, and has been sitting in a garage for a long time since. This is a rescue, and it’s well worth it!
We were delighted to get this car from the folks who cleaned out the prior owner’s property. You can see from his console between the seats that he used this car a lot; there were beer can openers and various other tools at the ready! It’s fun to find a Bugeye that was a utilitarian vehicle for its prior owner.
Bear is a relatively solid car, although there is some rust in the spring mount areas. The prior owner had welded in new foot well floor pans, so this is the kind of car that could be brought back to life in its current condition if you wanted something that was not cosmetically restored, or you could start over and do a complete restoration. The choice is up to the new owner!
We did not try to make this Bear run but we did oil the cylinders and give it a turn. The engine is not seized so that is good news! You’ll need all new hydraulic parts, ignition bits, and probably a new fuel tank so that the car can be brought back to life in all of its former glory! The top is good, but old; it has a very interesting single-piece back window we had not ever seen on a Bugeye before!
This is a fun project for anyone wanting to bring another Bugeye back onto the road! And, of course, we have all the parts in our catalog to help the new owner bring bring Bear out of hibernation!
