This is a 1960 Bugeye Sprite we call “Arnold” (AN5L 27855). Arnold has been here at Bugeyeguys twice before and received an extensive amount of upgrades and attention each time. It’s fresh off a five-year stint in Canada and is ready for its next owner. Arnold is a sound driver! And many people love wire wheels with two-eared knock offs!
Arnold has many reliability and performance upgrades to make it fun, including a 1275 engine with exhaust header and rib case transmission, premium aluminum radiator, K&N lifetime air filters (which have been freshly re-charged), front disc brakes with vented rotors, a solid-state electric fuel pump, front sway bar, three point retractable seat belts and more!
This Bugeye’s interior is a classic black on black combination that looks just right against older red paint. The chrome shift tower adds a little shine to the passenger compartment to offset the all-black floor coverings. Arnold is fitted with a lovely wood steering wheel and our radio blanking plate kit installed, as well as black three-point retractable seat belts and an oversized rear view mirror. The paint is a bit weathered, and there are a couple spots in the quarters and on the bottom of the “A” pillars there is some rust, but overall the body is in good structural condition and the car presents nicely. Bugeye prices have been rising, and the minor cosmetic imperfections on this car help to keep down the asking price.
The 1275 engine runs strong, the K&N lifetime air filters help it breathe most efficiently, and the premium aluminum radiator with electric cooling fan keeps Arnold running at the proper temperature.
The underside is in nice shape for a 62-year-old car. There was a repair to the driver side footwell by a prior owner. Arnold comes with a good top, a useable set of side curtains that could use new plexiglass panels, and a well-fitting tonneau cover. An older set of wind wings are also equipped.
