NOW SOLD TO D.R. in Pensacola, Florida! Congratulations!!! Excellent choice! Car 361 for us!
New this week for your consideration is “Ames” (AN5L 34510). This car is perfect for anyone looking for a modified Bugeye with many of the popular improvements. For example, Ames has a larger 1275 Engine, front disc brakes, a Rivergate five-speed Datsun transmission, Minilite wheels, newer tires, LED brake lights and a front anti-roll bar. The car has a flip forward nose too for better engine access, as well as a nifty concealed bonnet latch.
In Ames, the basic Bugeye has been transformed into a more user-friendly automobile that can do a whole lot more than one of its original counterparts. For example, Ames will go faster and is easier to operate with the fully synchronized five speed Datsun gearbox that gives you overdrive for quieter running. The car will also stop better with these uprated brakes and tires.
If you’re looking for a Bugeye that’s got some great mods already built-in, this is a great one to consider. Ames has in interesting feature on the back deck, a third brake light, which is a nice visual aid for the modern (distracted) driver. The third light is LED just like the tail lights, which makes for an impressive array when you hit the brake pedal. The underside is great, the paint is good, and the interior is quite nice! The car has been upgraded with two master cylinders from a later Sprite as well as a number of additional fuses and electronic ignition, and two-speed windshield wipers too.
Check out the video below; you can see a few more details of the car. I like the Stayfast premium canvas top and tonneau-these are expensive, and tend to stretch a bit more than the more common vinyl tops you see on these cars. The car also comes with very nice side curtains in their own pouch.
Ames is a great car to drive, and I think most people looking for a driver Bugeye that has the right improvements would be very happy with this one!
