Looking for an inexpensive MGB project? “Huey” is a complete car that needs floor restoration. Once that is done, you’ll have a really good driver on your hands! Of course, there will also be hydraulic system maintenance needed, as the car hasn’t driven for a while, so you can expect to do some mechanical maintenance, too. But what I like about this car is that the paint, while an amateur respray, looks fine, and once the floors are welded up, you’ ll have a fine driver. Huey’s interior is in pretty good condition. Its glove box door came off at some point, but it is present and it comes with the car.
This is a great project for anyone wanting a finish-able British car project that isn’t overwhelming. So many of these older MGs need body panel repair in addition to the floor rust challenges. At least with Huey, you can address the floor without being overwhelmed with tons of body work to boot! The floor has been previously patched but I would cut it all out and put in new reproduction floor pans and repair the cross members.
We did not try to start this car, but we have a video of it running recently (see below). The battery is dead and will need replacement, and it would be smart to drain and replace the fuel before starting it again. We are selling the car to help a local customer and we are too busy to get this one going again, so Huey would be best going to anyone looking for a fun summer project.
What you see is what you get, there are some spare parts in the trunk for the lights, as well as some new side mirrors. The floor metal is all available-we have some we can sell you to go with the car if desired and can get anything you need for the car.
