This is “London” (AN5L 21636), a 1960 Austin Healey Sprite that is in exceptional condition. The car was meticulously restored on a rotisserie. This is a top-shelf car.
Everything is new, with a rebuilt and uprated 1275 power plant and new front AND rear disk brakes. We have written about this before, but it is worth repeating… you can expect about a 15% improvement in stopping power with rear disk brakes over drums. This is nice, but not dramatic. But what is quite dramatic is the consistency and reliability afforded by rear disks. Drum brake shoes change. They have to wear-in. They have to be adjusted. They can get wet with brake fluid and axle grease. Rear disks, on the other hand, will work the same every time you press the pedal, so for consistency and ease of maintenance, rear disks are the best thing going!
There is also an electronic ignition system installed (to get rid of the ignition points), a front anti-roll bar and K and N lifetime air filters too!
The underside in particular shows the work of a master restorer. Everything is stunning, and all the new floor pans were installed perfectly. The exhaust system is stainless steel.
A gorgeous high-end and upgraded stayfast dark blue tonneau is included, as well as a nearly new black premium Everflex top. The steering wheel is a work of art by custom wheel builder Mike Lempert. This steering wheel has a stunning walnut inlay that makes this wheel one-of-a-kind.
In 2018, we took this car to the next level for a customer in Arkansas, and added our rear disk brake kit, front slotted rotors, three point retractable seat belts with custom austin healey cloisonné emblems attached, a cigarette lighter power port, aluminum radiator, new water pump, spin-on oil filter kit, LED lights, new side curtains and a pouch to protect them, ignition switch guillotine and new wheels and tires. We also went through the entire car to check it over before it left for the last owner, who recently sold the car back to us, so that we could offer it for sale once again. This is a great one! We did everything we could to upgrade this car for maximum reliabilty.
