If you are looking for a wonderfully built 1275 powered five-speed bugeye, check this out! This is a great 1959 Bugeye we call “Wally.” We prepared and sold this car four years ago to a collector in Arizona, who put a few thousand miles on the car out there and when he was ready to move on, we were delighted to have a chance to bring the car back for a new owner. It is a dry, rust-free car with a lot of nice upgrades.
The car has a strong 1275 engine with great oil pressure and an upgraded Mallory distributor. The exhaust is upgraded with a header and twin-tipped performance muffler for an excellent note. Tube shocks were added in the front, as well as an air horn. Front disk brakes and Mini-light wheels complete the package. The radiator was improved with a modern re-core two years ago, to optimize cooling for the southwest. An electric cooling fan was also added, as was a six-bladed upgraded engine driven fan. The prior owner reported nice cool running even in the hot temperatures of that region.
Most importantly, the transmission was changed to a five-speed datsun 210, a very popular Bugeye upgrade that makes highway cruising a dream and also provides a fully synchronized gear box. Synchros are excellent and shifting is a dream. Tires are great-wider 175 series Firestones. Front anti-roll bar is thicker for better cornering
The car comes with a recent convertible top and a custom tonneau was fit to accommodate and seal around the roll bar. Inertia three-point seat belts are fit, as are K and N lifetime air filters. Also included is a Bugeyeguy top tube convertible top bag and side curtain pouch for the nearly new windows. Rubber floor mats protect the carpet and metal threshold covers protect the foot well cross members, another nice addition. We also fit a battery kill switch hidden (shhh, in the passenger footwell) with a removable key. This is a great anti-theft device-simply remove the big red key when you leave the car unattended and the battery is cut-out.
We have just changed the master cylinder and oil pressure gauge rubber line. We have also fit a new water pump and bypass hose. Overall, this is quite a complete package, ready to go to a new home, well-optioned, and just serviced. On deposit, but Call or email to discuss making another car like Wally your own!
